Reflecting on the Inaugural Safety Conference at UC Merced
In 2023, UC Merced Police-Emergency Management hosted its first-ever Safety Conference, brining together a diverse community of educators, administrators, public safety and behavioral health professionals, and industry partners. This inaugural Safety Conference set the stage for what we hope will become a bi-annual traditiion dedicated to improving campus safety and fostering a culture of preparedness.
The Safety Conference provided a platform for:
- Collaboration Across Disciplines - created an opportunity for those tasked with safety aspects to work together with others from different backgrounds and expertise.
- Knowledge Sharing - developed an opportunity for subject matter experts to share insights, best practices, and innovative strategies for improving safety.
- Regulatory Compliance - clarified and discussed the latest safety regulations and standards to ensure participants were well infomed and capable of implementing changes.
- Attendee Empowerment - developed strategies to develop a culture of preparedness and safety awareness, engagement, and responsibility among employees at all levels.
